ABOUT BWRC
Our Facilities
The Belize Wildlife and Referral Clinic (BWRC) facility is located in Central Farm, Belize and includes the clinic facilities and enclosures in the adjacent Crested Caracara Reserve.
Reception and Exam Room
Thanks to generous furniture donations, as well as summer intern and student contributions, BWRC was able to set up its reception with a basic office, file cabinet, and computer. We have a good start at a reference library (thanks mostly to Dr. Isabelle’s private collection, and some donated materials), but we still need a working scanner/printer/copy machine to complete the office setup.
X-ray Room
 Thanks to the Heska Inspiration in Action prize, the Belize Wildlife & Referral Clinic was able to purchase a brand new MinX-ray head, stand and table, as well as the Ecotank small volume processor.
This X-ray setup was designed for mixed and/or exotic practices and covers a broad range of patients. It is also one of the most portable systems available and was purchased with a carrying case and a tripod for field use. So the x-ray room is probably our nicest room for now.
Lab
The lab currently consists of mainly two microscopes and basic parasitological diagnostic, urinalysis and soon hematology (manual). We are working on sourcing further lab equipment including centrifuges, glass ware, beakers, stains, incubator as well as SNAP tests and more. Surgery Room(s)
clinic currently has a multipurpose central room, which is sometimes transformed into a large surgery room. The clinic is also equipped with a smaller and separate surgery room.
This smaller surgery room is inside a former walk-in refrigerator and urgently needs to be equipped with better lighting, ideally LED surgery lights. Due to the construction of this room, this has to be portable and can not be attached to walls or ceiling.
Classroom
 All rooms at BWRC are used as teaching spaces, however our central multipurpose room is the largest classroom at the clinic. Thanks to visiting summer students, we have equipped this room with fold out tables and (plastic) chairs; and we’re always ready to spring into action and make room for the large surgery table in case an emergency comes in during class hours.
